How Near?

When all is said and done Jerusalem will be the capital of Israel (and the world), and those that hurt the most will be those that are trying to prevent it. That is because God made a covenant to give all of the land of Canaan to Abraham and his descendants after him in their generations forever (Gen. 17:7-8).
One of the mistakes Christians make in reading the Bible is caused by our tendency to look at everything through “Church colored glasses.” By that I mean we read it as if it all applies directly to us without regard for the context or historical background. I know Paul said everything that was written in the past was written to teach us (Romans 15:4) but that doesn’t mean it was all written to us or about us. It means we’re supposed to learn from the experiences of those who came before us. A prime example of this kind of mistake can be found in our interpretation of the Olivet Discourse (Matt. 24-25). I’ll show you what I mean.
I have never had a desire to study the significance of Bible numbers, but I have long believed that everything in the Bible is significant. I have always been leery of going too far in the study of numbers, but I have recently seen some amazing things that other prophecy teachers (Bob Mitchell, Dan Goodwin, etc.) have pointed out.
I don’t agree with everything they say, but I will try to take some of the amazing things these prophecy teachers say that seems right to me and pass it on in my own words.

As in years past, we’ve kept Jack’s list of the seven with their primary Biblical references and offer comments from current events. These comments are based on reports from a variety of international news services that have appeared in our daily “Prophecy In The Headlines” feature during the past year.
Anyway, in 1215, Rabbi Judah ben Samuel was allegedly visited by the prophet Elijah who told him, “When the Ottomans (Turks) conquer Jerusalem they (the Turks) will rule over Jerusalem for eight jubilees (8 X 50 = 400 years).”
Prophecy has a habit of coming back to Israel, as this tiny nation is the linchpin in studying Bible prophecy and what is coming upon the earth, which may have already started as birth pangs. Jesus described the signs of His return in Matthew’s Gospel:
Third Temple fever is rising surrounding the Temple Mount. It is, I believe, the most burning issue of our time, although simmering just beneath the surface of Middle East madness, just out of sight and mind most of the time.
