The Nicolaitan Heresy

Christians generally don’t hear many sermons from those texts mentioning the Nicolaitans. The reasons might be as individual as the preachers, but it could also be because Revelation 2 is the only place they are mentioned and even at that not much is said about them. What we do know is that the doctrine of the Nicolaitans was an early Christian heresy, and that it was hated by Jesus. Evidently it was associated with the treachery of Balaam, the prophet who was for sale, and based on its name it likely had to do with its emphasis upon the distinction between “clergy” and “laity” also.

The Three Questions Of Matthew 24

One of the mistakes Christians make in reading the Bible is caused by our tendency to look at everything through “Church colored glasses.” By that I mean we read it as if it all applies directly to us without regard for the context or historical background. I know Paul said everything that was written in the past was written to teach us (Romans 15:4) but that doesn’t mean it was all written to us or about us. It means we’re supposed to learn from the experiences of those who came before us. A prime example of this kind of mistake can be found in our interpretation of the Olivet Discourse (Matt. 24-25). I’ll show you what I mean.

The Coming Cashless Society

The Bible says a time will come when a global dictator will require everyone on earth to receive a mark on the right hand or the forehead (Revelation 13:16). Those without the mark won’t be able to buy or sell anything (Revelation 13:17). For centuries, Christians have wondered how this will even be possible. But in recent years, the rise of advanced technology has given us a glimpse as to how it might occur.

The Bible and immigration

Attorney General Jeff Sessions Monday responded to a lawsuit against the Department of Justice by Chicago challenging DOJ’s crackdown on sanctuary cities that are violating federal law. Sessions stated, “This administration will not simply give away grant dollars to city governments that proudly violate the rule of law and protect criminal aliens at the expense of public safety. So it’s simple: Comply with the law or forego taxpayer dollars.” Sessions also countered the Chicago Mayor’s assertion that enforcing immigration law would require a “reordering of law enforcement practices” in Chicago. Sessions said that exactly what the city needs-“policies that rollback the culture of lawlessness that has beset the city.”

Gog-Magog at Israel’s Front Door

If you start reading Ezekiel and understand that all the people around Israel are being prophesied to being slain with the sword. In the above verses, God speaks through Ezekiel about a country called “Elam”.. Where is the land called Elam? This was the name of the land east of Mesopotamia and southwest, which is modern day Iran. Continue reading and as you come to chapter 31 and beyond, it appears to be a chronological order of disaster for all the people who surround Israel. These chapters lead up to the well-known prophecy of Ezekiel 38-39.

Daily Jot: Our declining Christianity

In July 2005, a dear sister in the Lord went to the streets, just four blocks from the White House and within a stone’s throw of several churches, with a television camera and a microphone.  Her objective: ask random people a very simple question, who is Jesus Christ? One man, a Muslim, said Jesus Christ was “The Big Cheese.”  A woman said that Jesus was supposed to be the savior of the world, but that she didn’t see how a man could take on that title.  Still another said that Jesus was a nice man who did a lot of good. Another Muslim said that he was not Christian, so he could not define Jesus for someone else,

CONFIDENCE IN THE COMING RAPTURE

Wondering about the end times and the rapture can cause confusion, worry and fear for a lot of people, even Christians! For ages people have tried to figure out the exact time that the prophecy of Jesus’s return will happen. The best place to turn for answers about the rapture is Scripture! God tells us everything we need to know in the Bible. There are some things that God has left a mystery for us, but has given us enough information in His Word that we should have complete confidence and hope in the Hope of our Salvation. The above verses speak of a time when those who are found in Jesus Christ will stand before Him and receive what has been done in our body, either for Him, or for ourselves.
