Why a healthy distrust of government is needed

Why a healthy distrust of government is needed – Bill Wilson – www.dailyjot.com

There is a toy figurine of Jesus standing atop the computer desk in my office. Several years ago, we were going through some trials that seemed insurmountable. As parents often do, we try to put on our best faces and go about our way without cluing the kids in on the dire situation at hand. Our son Christian, however, is very intuitive. He was busy with scissors and paper and tape before school one morning. Just before he left, he brought the little statue into my office and gave it to me. Written on construction paper and duct taped to Jesus’ garment were the words “Trust in Him.” It encouraged me beyond what he would ever know. I have learned above all else to trust in Him. He never lets you down.

I have also learned a healthy distrust of government is necessary to remain free. We are fast approaching a time–if it isn’t here already–when the US government will become so overreaching of its Constitutional limits that we will no longer truly be free. Please take no offense, because I am just making a point here, but those of us on unemployment, food stamps, welfare, disability, medicare, medicaid, social security and any other entitlement are putting their trust in government that those payments will keep coming so long as you need them. But cuts are coming. You will be taxed more and given less–the occupant of the Oval Office has said as much. Where will your trust be in that day? Where will you turn?

There was a story today with a picture of a mosquito that had landed on someone’s arm. A closer look showed that this mosquito was a drone that could spy on you, take a DNA sample, even paint you with an RFID that you might be tracked everywhere you go. The Senate is trying to pass gun control laws that if you are questioned regarding mental illness, you will be forcefully disarmed. They are already doing this in California. Another example–the Missouri list of concealed carry permit holders was given to the Social Security Administration Office of Inspector General to match those with a mental diagnosis or disability who have a concealed carry permit. It is against the law for the state of Missouri to share such information with the Feds. Somehow the list of 185,000 persons was also posted online.

When the government believes it is so powerful it does not need to enforce the law as this government has with marriage laws, offshore drilling, illegal aliens, and more, there is no protection for the individual citizen. There surely will be no protection if we are disarmed by those who are so radical about guns that they themselves are likely mentally ill. What is to say that the day may come when Christians are considered mentally ill? Wait. That has already happened in government documents on extremism.

My friend, you cannot afford to put your trust in the government. It will fail you, maybe incarcerate you or cause you to be killed. Psalm 37:3-5 says, “Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shall you dwell in the land and verily you shall be fed. Delight thyself also in the Lord; and he shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.”
