In 1139 A.D. (about 876 years ago), a Roman Catholic priest named St. Malachy said he had a vision from God (St. Malachy’s Prophecy of the Popes; Google it). According to him, in his vision, God revealed that the Pope at that time (Innocent II) would be followed by 112 more Popes and the 112th Pope would be the False Prophet.
St. Malachy also said the 112th Pope would pave the way for the Antichrist; he would rule during the Tribulation period; rule during the destruction of the Roman Catholic Church, and be in office when the battle of Armageddon takes place.
Most Christians have never heard of St. Malachy’s prophecy, but many who have give no credence to it because it is not Scripture. It does not have the authority of Scripture and it should not be treated as such. But a few who have heard about it believe it is true because St. Malachy prophesied (some vague and other not so vague) characteristics about each Pope that they think have come true.
It makes for interesting speculation. For instance, if the False Prophet is alive, the Antichrist is alive. If the 78 year old Pope is the False Prophet, the Rapture, world government, world religion, wars and rumors of wars, division of Israel, mark of the beast, etc. are near.
Anyway, one of the interesting things about St. Malachy’s prophecy is that Pope Francis (the current Pope) is the 112th Pope since Innocent II and his theology seems to lack a lot. Dr. David R. Reagan (the Founder and Director of Lamb & Lion Ministries) recently did a great job of pointing out some of the Pope’s theological errors.
For example, Pope Francis said, “If Martians were to land on earth tomorrow, I would be happy to baptize them.” Martians should not be baptized unless they accept Jesus.
Pope Francis said, “Atheists who do good are redeemed, not just Catholics.” No one can be saved by doing good, not atheists, not Catholics, not Martians or anyone else.
Pope Francis said, “The Big Bang Theory does not contradict the role of God as divine Creator.” The Bible says God spoke this world into existence in six days. That contradicts a massive explosion in one day.
Pope Francis said, “If someone is gay and is searching for the Lord and has good will, then who am I to judge him?” God said the gay lifestyle is an abomination and the Pope has the responsibility to know it and tell it like it is.
Pope Francis said, “God is not a divine being or a magician.” God is a divine being who works miracles.
Since Dr. Reagan’s great article, Pope Francis has recognized the State of Palestine. This is a major theological error. Pope Francis can recognize the division of Israel, but according to the Bible God won’t recognize it.
Having said this, Revelation chapter 13 teaches that two beasts (the Antichrist and the False Prophet) will rise to power during the Tribulation period. The Antichrist (a global political leader) will receive his power from Satan (Rev. 13:2, 4). The False Prophet (a global religious leader) will speak like Satan (Rev. 13:11).
These two beasts (world leaders) will have a common goal that will come from Satan (Rev.17:7). They will work together to establish a world government and a false religion (Rev.13:7-8).
Some believe the false religion will be located in the city of Rome (where the Roman Catholic Church is) and others believe it will be located in the rebuilt city of Babylon (Rev. 17:5, 9). For awhile, the Antichrist and False Prophet will share a political alliance with global leaders (Ten Kings), but that won’t last (Rev. 17:12-13; 16). Put another way, the False Prophet will abandon true worship and establish a political alliance with world leaders.
This brings us to the Papal Encyclical that Pope Francis released on June 18, 2015. Some call it a political document because Pope Francis wants political leaders to reduce the world’s population, regulate global climate change, establish a global constitution, establish a global court, establish a global council (could this be 10 kings) and establish a one-world government.
Pope Francis condemned global greenhouse gas emissions, but some hoped he would condemn Islamic terrorism and the persecution of Christians. He wrote about our “sister” Mother Earth, but some hoped he would write about our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
He wrote about stamping out the coal industry, but some hoped he would write about stamping out abortion and gay marriage. He wrote about the rise of sea levels, but some hoped he would write about the rise of lawlessness in the world and in the White House. It was said that Pope Francis was speaking to the world, but his encyclical sounded more like he was speaking for the world instead of for God.
Understand that this writer is not saying that Pope Francis is the False Prophet because that cannot be known by mortals at this time. But this writer is saying that Pope Francis is the 112th Pope since Innocent II, he is demonstrating theological error, he is aligning himself with political leaders and he is taking positions that the Antichrist and False Prophet will take.
It is either coincidence or another sign that signifies the nearness of home time (the Rapture).
